The Baltimore Orioles played a division game against the New York Yankees and it was a wild one.
The score was set at 5-4 in the direction of the Yankees. Tyler Clippard, who owns a 2.95 lifetime ERA, would be New York’s pitcher. He would matchup against Orioles outfielder Seth Smith. It was expected that Smith would go for a sacrifice fly to tie the ballgame at 5-5. That didn’t happen.
Smith poked a home run, yes POKED, over the right field scoreboard in the seventh inning with Schoop on. The ball looked like it wasn’t going to leave the yard, but eventually it continued to keep going. With Smith’s homer, Baltimore took the lead and never looked back.
Jimenez was roughed up during the game. Luckily for Baltimore they had a secret weapon: their bullpen. Donnie Hart, Darren O’Day, Brad Brach and Zach Britton all pitched scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Baltimore’s bullpen has combined for 12 1/3 scoreless innings to start the season.
